Edible Spring Gardens

orangeSpring is finally here and we are ready for it! Southwest Florida is a gorgeous mix of natural beauty and developmental land. We have mastered the art of residences, commercial sites, while still maintaining the environment around us. This spring, Blue Landscaping is here to help you maintain your landscape, irrigation systems, and any landscaping services that you may need.

Are you lucky enough to have a lot of space outside? If not, are you looking to make the most of the space you have? Every year the Green Movement becomes more active, apt, and continues to expand. This year locally grown food is the talk of the town. As Southwest Florida residences we are blessed with the opportunity to have access to over five farmer’s market in Collier County. Supporting local farmer and companies helps the community with health and freshness, as well as financial. This spring, however, the food may be closer than you think.

Your yard space may be prime area for a new garden or some fruit trees. Fruit trees in particular are the most common and best “edible garden” alternative. Southwest Florida has fertile soil that makes it perfect for fruit trees.

Some fruit trees that can be grown in Florida include:

  • Mango
  • Avocado
  • Orange
  • Lychee
  • Carambola (Star Fruit)
  • Papaya
  • Peach

Trees need care when they are planted but in the long run they are more than worth it. Eating healthier alternatives to sugar and sweets is a given with fruit just a short walk away. Incorporate some different foods in your diet and bask in the comfort that fruit trees and gardens give you; healthy alternatives, cost effective, and just a bit of soil, water, and love, and you can create your own grocery store.
